Y5&6 Navigators Winter Sport 2019

This year we are again planning a two-pronged approach; competitive sport at Hagley Park and non-competitive

at Hansens Park.  

Please note, Sport will be on THURSDAY AFTERNOONS.

Competitive teams will be travelling to Hagley Park to play in the Thursday winter competition
run by Sport Canterbury.  

The students have shown a high level of interest in playing Hagley sport this year and we hope to be able to enter

3 teams in Netball, hockey and football.  

Rugby could be an option if we have enough interest and an adult to coach.

Non-competitive group will go to Hansen Park.  Coaching Solutions coaches will help their skill development
in a range of sports, with an in-school tournament at the end of each term.  
In this programme students will rotate around four different sports.

We need your support to enable the programme to proceed.  Please consider being a coach of at team.

We need your help as each team must have a coach/referee.

The students will need to trial for the teams and we will confirm your child’s team selection on or before
Friday week 1 of term 2.

Please do not send any money at this stage. If your child is NOT selected for a Hagley team they will be
attending sport at Hansen Park.

Sport Starts Week 3 Term 2 (Thursday 16 May) and goes until Week 4 Term 3 (15 August).

Before your child commits to a sport for the winter we thought we would give you a break down of the costs.  
If you are prepared to meet these costs students are allowed to try out for teams.

Approximate Costs for Hagley teams.

Note: the Approximate for everyone $78 (this is based on 2018 costs)

RUGBY

Provide own rugby boots and mouth guard

School provides shirt and shorts      $10 (hire fee)

Transport $68

HOCKEY

Provide own mouth guard and shin pads and school socks     

School provides a shirt and shorts    $10 (hire fee)

NETBALL

Provide own white socks and sports shoes

School provides a shirt and skorts     $10 (hire fee)

FOOTBALL

Provide own football boots and shin pads, mouth guards optional

COSTS FOR HANSEN PARK

Last year the cost was $28 for the programme run by Canterbury Coaching Solutions.

At this stage we are unsure of the cost of this programme.

Coaches:

Looking at the interest shown by the children, we require 7 coaches, two each for Football, Netball and Hockey
and one for rugby.  To enable the school to enter teams in the Hagley competition we need to have coaches
for each team. The coach needs to supervise the students and also be able to umpire the games.  

Having practices is an advantage for the team but often the school fields are too wet to get on them during
the winter months. In the past we have walked to Hansens Park for lunchtime practices, so we hope to continue this.
